speech for the People’s Literature Festival.

Good evening, everyone. It’s an honor to stand here, among people who believe, as I do, that words still matter. Those stories are not just things we write or read… but stuff we live through. When I began my blog, I didn’t imagine it would become a space for healing, not just for me, but for others who found themselves in my words. I simply wanted to tell the truth about ordinary moments: a memory, a conversation, a quiet ache that stayed in my heart. But slowly I discovered something profound, that the more personal a story is, the more universal it becomes. Readers would write to me saying, It felt like you were telling my story. And I realized that pain, joy, loss, and love all wear different clothes, but they have the same heartbeat. We think our stories make us different, but in truth, they are what bind us together. There were times I wrote when I didn’t have the strength to speak. Writing became the bridge between who I was and who I was becoming. It gave me the courage to face myself, and sometimes, that’s the hardest part of all. Because before a story heals others, it first heals the one who dares to tell it. And it’s not about being perfect or wise. It’s about being honest. When we dare to show our cracks, light enters through them. And through that light, others see that they are not alone. I often think of storytelling as an act of quiet rebellion, against isolation, against silence, against forgetting. Each time we share a piece of our truth, we’re saying: I’m here. I’ve lived. And you, too, can survive. My blog taught me that connection doesn’t happen in the grand moments; it happens in the small, human ones. A reader remembers their father after reading about mine. A stranger from another country understands what it means to miss home. Words travel far, but they always return with warmth. So tonight, I want to leave you with this: your story matters. Not because it’s perfect, but because it’s real. Somewhere, someone needs to hear it. Someone needs to know that what they’re going through has been lived and overcome by another soul. And if my words have taught me anything, it’s this: when we write with honesty, we don’t just connect with others, we reconnect with ourselves. Thank you.
